About
I'm interested in functional, typological, and descriptive approaches to language. Currently I'm working on topics related to historical linguistics, such as language contact, grammaticalization and other aspects of diachronic morphosyntax, focusing on Egyptian and Coptic.
At the moment I'm doing post-doctoral research at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where I'm working on the pragmatic basis of semantic change in grammaticalization.
This year, I've done a lot of collaborative work with Stéphane Polis, who wrote a PhD on modality in Late Egyptian. We gave a lot of joint talks, and next year will be publishing the results.
I have 7 years of experience teaching linguistics and languages (Coptic & Egyptian, as well as a brief stint teaching Latin). I developed several courses, including an Introduction to Linguistics course taken by all students in the Faculty of Humanities who study in linguistic or philological departments. This year, I'll be teaching an MA seminar on grammaticalization at the Hebrew University.
